Gujarat will take a cue from Maharashtra on reservation says CM Rupani

first_img Gujarat government will look to Maharashtra for cues on settling the Patidar quota row,Chief Minister Vijay Rupani told BusinessLine. It is for the first time, since the 2015 quota stir gained momentum in the State, that Gujarat CM said he was open to a quota for the community if legal framework allowed it.Rupani, who was in Mumbai on a road show for the annual Vibrant Gujarat Summit said, he had sought details of Maharashtra government’s working on preliminary approval for a Maratha quota. With BJP in power in both Maharashtra and Gujarat political pundits are of the view that if one State announces that it will be bringing a particular community under quota system, the move could put pressure on the other to do the same.“Even we are eager to know what Maharashtra has done. It’s a recent development so we will study it and work accordingly. After a survey report Maharashtra government has given in-principal approval and no ordinance has been passed yet. We will study the move and survey and see if there is any legal or constitutional way. Even when the agitation was on in Gujarat, we told the agitators that it is not possible to give over 50 per cent reservation and constitution and court orders are clear. If we give it will result in cutting reservation for other castes already existing in the quota category.”Patidar community accounts for over 12 per cent of population in Gujarat. For nearly three years, Gujarat too has seen high pitched agitations for quota from Patidar community led by Hardik Patel. While Patidar’s were mainly associated with land holding during early 19th century, falling agricultural incomes and overall socio-economic squeeze have taken a toll. During the 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections, Congress promised reservation to the community if elected to power. Then, Patel openly supported the Congress on the reservation issue.Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis on November 18 said the State government will give quota to Marathas as a “Social and Educationally Backward Class.” The government had accepted the major recommendations of the State Commission for Backward Classes, which submitted a favourable report on the Maratha community’s demand on November 15.  SHARE SHARE SHARE EMAIL COMMENT COMMENTS November 26, 2018center_img Published on Gujarat Reservation Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani   –  PTIlast_img read more

Modi acted as Anil Ambanis middleman in Rafale deal committed treason Rahul

He said Anil Ambani met French Defence Minister and conveyed him about the Rafale deal prior to the Prime Minister’s meeting to ink the deal. He added that even the Defence Secretary and the then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar were unaware of the content of the deal.Allegation deniedDenying this, a Reliance Defence spokesperson said the purported email being referred by the Congress is regarding the discussion between Airbus and Reliance Defence regarding civil and defence helicopter programmes under ‘Make in India’.“Defence Minister Parrikar after signing the deal had said he did not know about this new deal. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) was negotiating with Rafale, but was unaware that they have been kicked out of the negotiation,” Rahul Gandhi told reporters on Tuesday. He said the new development reveals that the deal was a breach of ‘Official Secrets Act’ (OSA). “The Prime Minister, who is the only other person who knows about this deal, has informed Anil Ambani, and the latter is telling the French that he is going to get a deal which he gets. He opens the company after this conversation. So, there is no other clear way of putting this. Anil Ambani has put it beautifully. He mentioned the MoU in preparation and the intention to sign it during the Prime Minister’s visit. The Prime Minister is acting as Anil Ambani’s middleman and this is black and white for anybody who wants to read it,” Rahul Gandhi said. The Reliance spokesperson said the discussion on the proposed MoU was clearly with reference to cooperation between Airbus Helicopter and Reliance.‘Facts twisted’ “It had no connection whatsoever with the government-to-government agreement between France and India for the 36 Rafale aircraft. It is in public domain that Airbus Helicopter has partnered with Mahindra for the military helicopter programme. Also, for the record, the MoU for the Rafale aircraft was signed between France and India on January 25, 2016, and not in April 2015. From the above, it is evident that the facts are being deliberately twisted and reality being ignored,” the spokesperson added.Rahul Gandhi added that the Prime Minister acted in violation of OSA and criminal action must be taken against him. “This istreason. Narendra Modi is doing what spies do. He is informing somebody about defence matter. He is under oath,” Gandhi said. “This itself is criminal. This itself will put the Prime Minister in jail,” the Congress President said. The Amethi MP alleged that the CAG report on the matter, which is to be tabled in Parliament, is a worthless report. Opposition conspiring to spread anarchy disrespecting peoples mandate Amit Shah

first_imgPublished on voting COMMENT national elections SHARE May 22, 2019center_img SHARE SHARE EMAIL The ruling BJP on Wednesday slammed the Opposition for “disrespecting the people’s mandate” by casting doubts over the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and questioning institutional procedures laid down by the Election Commission and the Supreme Court for the counting of votes. The ruling party seemed outraged by the resistance put up by what the Opposition parties have termed as the BJP’s bid to “steal” the mandate. The BJP, on its part, has declared that it is winning “over 300 seats”, a claim that has been validated by all the exit polls during the culmination of the seventh and last phase of voting. In this backdrop, the BJP termed the demand by 22 Opposition parties — to begin the counting of votes by first counting five random Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPATs) — as a move to “tarnish” Indian democracy.Through social media and later in a statement issued by the central BJP, party President Amit Shah accused the Opposition of “conspiring” to spread anarchy in the country because they have lost the popular support.“Opposing EVMs is disrespecting the people’s mandate. Devastated by the prospect of their imminent defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, these 22 opposition parties are tarnishing the image of Indian democracy and the democratic process, before the nation and the entire world,” said Amit Shah. Shah directed six questions at the Opposition, starting with why the questions over the EVMs were not raised when the Aam Aadmi Party won 67 out of 70 Assembly seats in the 2015 Delhi elections or when the Congress formed governments in four States — Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.“Should it be presumed that when the Opposition wins, then it emerges victorious, but when it loses, it blames EVMs? If they do not trust EVMs, then why did they form government?” Shah asked. On SC’s orderHe asked the Opposition whether they are also questioning the Supreme Court’s decision to reject counting of all VVPATs of all EVMs.He said the demand for VVPAT counting and the agitation against EVMs has started only after the exit polls predicted a victory for the BJP.“I want to ask the Opposition – exit polls are conducted after surveying voters. The process does not involve the EVMs. So why are you questioning the machines?” Shah asked. He took exception to the statement by former NDA ally and now in Opposition, the leader of Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) Upendra Kushwaha, who warned that people can take up arms and “rivers of blood will flow” in the event of the BJP manipulating the polls.Shah said such comments have no place in democracy. The BJP President also asked whether the Opposition is questioning the Supreme Court’s decision rejecting the counting of all VVPATs   –  THE HINDU COMMENTSlast_img read more
